Big Secrets Between Friends: Best on Tap’s Ten Year Gala - Hannah Playhouse, 2 November 2024
Best on Tap’s gala at Hannah Playhouse celebrated a decade full of spontaneous theatre that honours and entertains.
The show’s first half was a return to the format that started it all : 'Secrets'. With the blessing of the format’s inventor, the inimitable Bobbi Block, Best on Tap invited the audience to share their secrets to inspire stories. True to form, every offer was something new and unexpected, and the scenes took us all over the map of human experience.
The second half was the brand new 'Between Friends', a format recently debuted to the delight of audiences at the New Zealand Improv Festival. On one half of the stage was the cast swapping true stories from their own lives - most of them new to each other. On the other side of the stage, the playing space where stories were brought to life, reimagined, taken in new directions. And in this half of the show we welcomed Best on Tap’s newest member, Kirstin Price, who brought a fresh new energy to this fresh new format.
On lights was the ever-brilliant (pun intended) D’ Woods; on keys the inspired Matt Hutton and on cello the superlative Sebastian Morgan-Lynch.
